The BAC 100 Peaks Challenge is a legendary quest to climb 100 of South Korea’s most renowned mountains. For us, it always felt like something that would take forever to accomplish, a journey with no clear end in sight.

But during the pandemic, life slowed down in a way we had never experienced before. We stepped away from our usual routines, including work, and found ourselves thinking more seriously about the remaining mountains we had yet to climb. Instead of putting it off once again, we decided to go for it. It was an ambitious plan, to try and finish everything within a year, but at that moment, it simply felt right. Completing the challenge was all we could think about.

We chose winter for our final push, hoping to avoid the heat and, perhaps, to catch a glimpse of the mountains dressed in white. In truth, the remaining peaks proved harsher and far less forgiving than we had expected. Many were in remote areas, and with the cold and ever-changing conditions, each climb felt more uncertain than the last. We had our concerns, about our health, the weather, and whether we were pushing ourselves too far. Yet, even with all that in mind, we kept going, one mountain at a time, not quite knowing how it would all turn out.
