The weather kept shifting from the very beginning. Snow was already falling as we made our way towards Saekdal Beach, unsure how long it would last. Moments like this are fragile near the sea. Wait too long and the snow melts; arrive too early and it refuses to settle. Timing was not merely important, it was everything.
As the weather kept deteriorating and snow continued to fall, we decided to drive to Saekdal Beach right away to capture our bucket list shot.
Snowfall may look magical, but it requires careful driving.
For years, we had imagined a single frame: water, sand and snow existing together in one real, unforced moment. It sounded simple in theory, yet reality proved otherwise. When we were living in Seoul, the idea felt almost impossible. The beach was too far, and by the time we could travel after snowfall, the snow along the coast had already begun to disappear. Snow behaves differently by the sea. In higher areas it falls heavier and lingers; along the shore, it is delicate and fleeting.
In the parking lot, you’ll find two food trucks selling juice, ice cream, snacks, and Jeju souvenir hats. However, during our visit, they appeared to be closed, perhaps because it was Sunday or because of the weather.
Arriving at Saekdal Beach as the snow continues to fall.
When we arrived, the beach felt almost untouched. The ocean kept its steady rhythm, the sand remained visible beneath a thin layer of white, and for brief intervals, all three elements aligned. Snow would fall, pause, and then return again. The sky cleared for a short spell before clouds rolled back in. We kept checking the frame, aware that the moment would not last.
We seem to be the first to arrive, leaving the only footprints across the snow-covered sand.

Three elements in one frame: the ocean, sand, and snow.
The sun comes out and hides, and the snow starts to fall again.
From Saekdal Beach, fishing vessels can be seen in the distance.
After exploring the shoreline, we stopped by ICC Jeju while the weather continued its restless pattern. Even there, the atmosphere felt softened beneath the shifting sky, quieter and more subdued, as though winter had gently settled over everything.
A quick stop at ICC Jeju.
With it being Sunday, there are far fewer people about.
Visitors will find several photo spots throughout the area.
Welcome to ICC Jeju.
With so few people around, it felt as though we had the entire place to ourselves.
On the ground floor, you’ll find a small café, ideal for a quick coffee or snack.
Visitors can also find a self-service souvenir vending machine inside.
ICC Jeju Duty-Free Store.
The duty-free store at ICC Jeju lets visitors browse popular items without waiting until the airport, offering convenience in saving time and avoiding carrying too much while travelling.
Later, we returned to the coast once more. The snow began falling again, lighter this time, drifting across the water’s edge. For a fleeting moment, the scene we had imagined for years stood before us: ocean in motion, sand exposed, snow falling softly across it all.
We discovered an ideal spot for a camper.
Falling snow evokes the feeling of childhood, pure and genuine.
After exploring ICC, we stepped outside near the coast, just as the snow began to fall again.
Moments like these are brief, so we made sure the shot was exactly right.
These images are not simply about composition, but about timing, proximity and patience. Had we still been living far from the sea, we would have missed it again. Some photographs are made not by skill or equipment alone, but by being present when conditions finally align.
Camellias, or dongbaek (동백) in Korean, bloom in Jeju from late autumn through winter and into early spring (around November to March).
One of the loveliest things about winter in Jeju is the camellias, especially during snowfall, as they add vivid colour to the landscape.
At first, we were hesitant to drive in this weather. We’re glad we pushed past our laziness and were fortunate enough to witness this winter scene.
