WATER SAND AND SNOW: ONE SNOWY DAY AT SAEKDAL BEACH

These images might look simple, but they actually took years for us to capture. For a long time, we wanted one specific frame: water, sand, and snow together, naturally in one real moment. A beach covered in snow while the ocean continues to move. It sounded simple in theory, but in reality, it was anything but.

When we were living in Seoul, this idea felt almost impossible. The beach was too far, and by the time we could travel after snowfall, the snow near the sea would already be melting. Snow behaves differently near water compared to the mountains. In higher areas, it falls heavier and stays longer. Near the coast, it’s fragile and temporary. Timing wasn’t just important, it was everything.

Moving to Jeju changed the situation completely. Our home is near the Saekdal Beach area, which meant we no longer had to rely on long travel times. When the weather shifted, we could respond immediately. That proximity gave us something we didn’t have before, a real chance.

On the day we took these images, the weather kept changing. It snowed, then stopped, then started again. The sky would clear for a few minutes before clouds rolled back in. The ocean never paused, the sand remained visible, and for a short window of time, all three elements existed together in one frame.

These images happened because of timing, location, and patience. If we were still living far from the coast, we would have missed it again. Some images aren’t about skill or equipment, they’re about being present when the conditions finally align. And after years of imagining it, this was the moment everything came together.
