JUNGMUN SAEKDAL BEACH

Jungmun Saekdal Beach, set within Seogwipo’s Jungmun Resort Complex, is one of Jeju’s most distinctive coastlines. Its dark, volcanic sand blends with lighter grains to create subtle variations in colour, while sheer cliffs frame the shoreline and open out to deep blue waters. The sea here is rarely still, its strong currents and rolling waves giving the beach its reputation as one of the island’s most favoured surfing spots.

Overlooking the coast, Parnas Hotel Jeju adds a quiet sense of refinement to the landscape, with several other hotels and pensions scattered nearby, all within easy reach. Despite its popularity, there is a certain balance to the place, where movement and stillness seem to exist side by side.

Living within walking distance, the beach has become part of our daily rhythm. What was once a place we looked forward to visiting has gradually turned into something more familiar, almost grounding. On our first visit, we found ourselves imagining the height of summer, the shoreline filled with people, the water alive with activity. It is easy to understand why it draws such crowds.

The presence of surfers is constant, their boards often strapped to the roofs of cars, waiting for the right conditions. When the weather shifts, they follow. Nearby, at Pacific Land, yacht tours and water activities offer a different way to experience the coast, adding another layer to the energy of the area.

For a quieter perspective, Shiri Hill offers a vantage point above the shoreline. From the so-called Swirl Bench, the entire stretch of Saekdal Beach comes into view, distant enough to take it all in, yet close enough to feel its presence.

Early in the morning, before the crowds arrive, everything settles into stillness. The sound of the waves carries further, the air feels softer, and the whole place takes on a more reflective mood. Living nearby, these are the moments that stay with us most. Even at home, simply drawing back the blinds and seeing the ocean has become something constant, a quiet presence we have come to appreciate more than we expected.
